Yorkshire

Our Story

Scotts, Hall & Birtles may have been established in 2025, but we would not describe ourselves as the new kids on the block. In fact, our collective roots as North Yorkshire solicitors go back to 1831.

Our firm as it is today was formed from the merger of Scotts Wright Solicitors and Hall & Birtles Solicitors, two well-respected Yorkshire Dales businesses which shared a common ethos for providing quality services at a fair price.

We have offices in Hawes, Leyburn and Richmond and are proud to serve these communities. But we also have a client base beyond our geographical origins - a recognition of the quality service that forms the bedrock of the firm.

But back to the story...

Scotts Wright has a long legacy running back to to 1831. Malcolm E Scott (Snr) opened his legal practice in 1931 and in more recent times, the Scott family firm merged with Christopher Wright in 1998 to form Scotts Wright. The Scott family connection remains strong today with director Steve Scott at the helm.

In 2025, Scotts Wright Solicitors merged with Hall & Birtles, a fellow Dales-based firm which itself boasted 60-years of combined legal experience. Hall & Birtles had its roots in Critchley Hall Solicitors and David Gall Solicitors.

Today, Scotts, Hall & Birtles Solicitors is best placed to put all this experience and expertise to use, for the benefit of clients news and old. We may be one of the more historic firms in North Yorkshire, but our eyes are fixed on the future, helping clients meet challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Our specialist teams in commercial and private client law work with business, individual, and family clients. We are also specialists in agricultural and estates law and are proud of the community in which we live and work.
